Target the root zone
Absorbing roots concentrate near the drip line, so ring or radial trenches along that band place the gel where it is actually used. Broadcast application across the whole orchard wastes material on ground roots never reach.
Work with the dormant season
Apply with the autumn or early spring fertiliser programme, incorporating the blend into trenches and watering it in. This coincides with root activity and avoids the compaction and disturbance of the growing season.
Combine with mulch or cover crops
Mulch and cover crops reduce evaporation while the gel stores water in the profile. Where cover crops compete for moisture in dry periods, the added storage capacity helps offset that competition.
Match the rate to soil and rainfall
Sandy or sloped orchards justify higher rates; heavier soils need less. Observe how long the root zone stays moist after irrigation, and adjust the programme over a couple of seasons rather than fixing it from the outset.
