Use realistic liquid
Water-based results are misleading because urine is saline. Use real urine or an accepted simulant so that capacity and speed reflect actual use.
Control the temperature
Test at room temperature and at the lowest temperature expected in service. Cold performance is usually the limiting case and is where products most often disappoint.
Measure both speed and firmness
Record how long visible liquid persists and how the gel behaves under compression. Capacity alone does not predict whether the product will feel solid and handle cleanly.
Run repeats
Biological variation between samples is significant. Run at least three repeats per condition and compare grades on the average, not on a single observation.
