Assess access and safety
Open leachate bodies present obvious hazards. Plan access, exclusion zones and personal protective equipment before work starts, and treat the site conditions as the first constraint on method.
Distribute evenly
For in-situ treatment, spread material across the surface rather than concentrating it in one spot. Even distribution hydrates more completely and avoids dry pockets that remain liquid.
Work in stages for depth
Deeper accumulations respond better to staged treatment: treat the upper layer, allow it to set, then treat what remains. This usually uses less material than a single large application.
Verify before removal
Check firmness across the whole area before loading. Soft spots indicate incomplete hydration and should be retreated locally rather than loaded and discovered later in transit.
