Hydroseeding places a thin layer of substrate on ground that dries quickly. Without a water reservoir, germination fails before roots anchor the soil. The gel holds moisture in the sprayed layer and improves establishment on difficult sites.
Add the polymer gradually during the mixing stage so it disperses fully. Clumps that survive mixing will block nozzles and produce uneven coverage. Test the slurry for flow and spray pattern before starting production.
Typical rates fall around one to three grams per kilogram of dry substrate. Steep, south-facing and thin-soil sites justify the higher end; shaded or moist sites need less to avoid keeping the layer saturated.
The gel cannot replace watering during dry spells. Irrigate after application so the polymer hydrates, and inspect coverage after heavy rain to identify thin patches that need touch-up seeding.
