Sample from the real source
Waste composition varies by kitchen, menu and season. Take samples from the actual container or process rather than simulating, or the result will not transfer.
Control the conditions
Record temperature, waste composition and contact time. Absorption is sensitive to all three, and unrecorded variation makes results impossible to compare.
Measure what matters
Check whether free liquid remains, how firm the gel is, and how it behaves when the container is tipped. Capacity alone does not predict whether the system works.
Run repeats
Waste is inconsistent by nature. Run at least three trials and judge on the average, not on a single favourable or unfavourable result.
