Know the limitation
Super absorbent polymer absorbs water, not oil. In fatty waste it will handle the aqueous fraction while the fat remains as a separate phase that may still separate and drain.
Assess the oil fraction
Estimate how much of the liquid is oil. If oil dominates, solidification alone will not stop drainage, and an oil-absorbing material or a different approach is needed.
Blended approaches
Some systems combine a water-absorbing polymer with an oil-absorbing component, or use a pad that captures fat while the polymer handles water. Design follows the composition of the waste.
Test with the real mixture
Laboratory tests using water will not predict behaviour in fatty waste. Always evaluate with representative material from the actual kitchen or process.
