Absorbent pads are better where liquid spreads across a surface, such as a tray, mat or underlay. They provide a defined layer and stay in place, which loose powder cannot.
Performance differences
Pads usually combine polymer with a core that spreads liquid, giving fast surface absorption. Powder can be slower to wet through if it clumps, so addition method and particle size matter more.
Choosing for the product
Decide based on how the liquid arrives. Contained and predictable volumes favour powder; spread or variable volumes favour pads. Some products use both in different layers.
