Separation is free water appearing in the pack; re-release is absorbed water being squeezed back out under load. They have different causes and different fixes, so identifying which one is occurring saves time.
Excess capacity with insufficient gel strength, inadequate thickener, or hard water producing a weak network all encourage separation. Filling before the gel has fully formed is another frequent cause.
Compression from stacking, local saturation from uneven polymer distribution, or a film that lets liquid migrate back to the surface. Improve network strength and distribution uniformity to reduce it.
Measure released liquid under a standard weight and compare batches. If separation appears without any compression, the issue is formulation; if it appears only under load, look at gel strength and distribution.
