After dosing, the polymer needs time to hydrate before filling. Slow uptake extends maturation and occupies mixing tanks; uptake that is too fast causes clumping before the powder has dispersed evenly.
Particle size is the main factor, followed by water temperature and ionic content, and mixing intensity. Warmer water generally speeds uptake, while hard water reduces final capacity.
A practical method is to dose under fixed agitation and time how long the mix takes to lose fluidity and show no free surface water. Repeat several times and average the result for a stable number.
If line timing is tight, agree an uptake time range with an allowed tolerance and ask for the figure per batch. That makes it much easier to tell whether a slowdown comes from the material or from the process.
