A SAP thawing pad is a flat absorbent mat containing super absorbent polymer. As frozen meat, seafood, or poultry defrosts, meltwater is drawn in and locked as a gel, so it cannot pool on the counter or leak onto other foods. For buyers, the value is a drier work surface, fewer slip and contamination incidents, and easier hygiene sign-off.
Specify a food-contact-rated, salt-tolerant polyacrylate with a clean certificate for your market. Key specs: gel strength under load, swell speed, and absence of extractable residues. Require the supplier’s food-contact compliance documentation and lot traceability before approving a pad for production use.
Match pad size to the tray so liquid cannot escape at the edges. For large cuts use one pad per item and avoid stacking, which traps warmth. Define pad dimensions, absorbency rating, and pack format in your purchase spec, and validate against your actual defrost volumes.
The pad is a hygiene aid, not a preservative. Defrost in the fridge where possible, discard used pads—never reuse—and keep raw and cooked on separate pads. Wash hands after handling, and fold the used pad into the liner to contain drips during disposal.
