Break it up properly
Freshly expanded material comes out as a dense mass. Pulling it apart by hand or with a fork opens air pockets and dramatically improves the appearance. This single step matters more than most formulation choices.
Avoid overwatering
Too much water produces a translucent, wet-looking gel that reads as slush rather than snow. Stop at the point where the material holds together without surface liquid.
Layer it loosely
Pile the snow loosely rather than compacting it into place. Compressed material loses the air gaps that create the fluffy look, so build depth gently.
Finish the surface
Lightly tease the top layer to break up clumps and create an uneven surface. Flat, smooth areas look artificial, while a slightly irregular surface catches light like real snow.
