Salinity is the first filter
Urine has meaningful ionic strength, which reduces absorption. Select grades tested in saline liquid rather than choosing the highest clean-water capacity, since the two rarely rank the same way.
Uptake speed for user experience
Users expect solidification within seconds to a couple of minutes. A grade with slightly lower capacity but much faster uptake generally delivers a better perceived result than a slow high-capacity one.
Gel firmness for disposal
The gel must survive being carried and tipped without releasing liquid. Gel strength under compression is therefore as important as capacity for products that are sealed and discarded.
Particle size and dust
Fine powder disperses and absorbs quickly, but dust during filling and use is undesirable in consumer products. Granular grades reduce dust and meter more cleanly during packaging.
