Dosage begins with the amount of liquid you need to immobilise, not with a fixed ratio per container. Measure or estimate the free liquid volume per unit, then work backwards to the powder mass using the absorption ratio you measured in that same liquid.
Real systems rarely reach the ideal ratio. Powder may not contact all the liquid, and salts reduce capacity. A margin of twenty to thirty percent over the calculated figure is common, adjusted once you have production data.
Swollen gel takes up space. In bags, trays or pads, confirm the swollen volume fits the enclosure without overfilling or bursting seals. Where space is tight, choose a grade with moderate capacity and stronger gel rather than the highest ratio available.
Run a small batch at the calculated dosage, check for free liquid after the expected contact time, then adjust. Record the final figure as a standard so operators can repeat it, and re-validate whenever the liquid source or temperature changes.
